All Saints CE Junior Academy

With God, nothing is impossible

Mental Health and Well Being

At All Saints CE Junior Academy, the mental health and wellbeing of our pupils, staff and families is paramount.  We do this through our nurturing culture and ethos and by consciously investing in our relationships with one another. We are an inclusive Church Academy with extremely high standards of personal behaviour and a strong Christian ethos. We believe that our school vision and values should underpin every aspect of school life.

The values we aim to foster have been chosen by the whole school community. These are:

GENEROSITY- makes things possible as it guides us to give to others those things which they need.

RESPECT- makes things possible as it creates an environment in which we feel safe and valued enabling us to do our best.

HOPE- makes things possible as it fosters positivity and creativity.

RESILIENCE- makes things possible as it allows us to see failures and barriers as temporary.

KINDNESS- makes things possible as it allows us to support and encourage others when they face difficulties.

Wellbeing and mental health is supported in many ways at All Saints CE Junior Academy; through our curriculum, whole school events and different support systems offered to pupils on a 1:1 or small group basis.

We work closely with East Sussex Mental Health team, have a School Counsellor in school once a week and use THRIVE, a trauma informed approach to improve mental health and wellbeing.

THRIVE is embedded within pour curriculum and each class has Thrive targets they are working on. Children are offered 1:1 or small group THRIVE sessions when identified as requiring further mental health support. Mrs Light is our THRIVE practitioner.

ZONES of regulation is a programme to support children in recognising and managing their own and others emotions and feelings. In classrooms the children have access to Zones of Regulation posters whereby they can share which zone they feel they are in and use the strategies taught and provided to aid their emotional regulation taking them back into the appropriate zone.

Some children are taught more explicitly through the Zones of Regulation programme on a 1:1 or small group basis.
