On this last day of term, I am writing to wish you and your children a very restful summer break following a very challenging few months. I would also like to thank you for your continued patience and understanding during the pandemic and appreciate the messages of support we have received.
Today we say farewell to our year 6 – it has been a real pleasure to teach and work with them over the last 4 years and we feel, even given the time out of the classroom, they will flourish at their secondary schools if they maintain such dedication to their learning. Hopefully the situation they have found themselves in will stand them in good stead in the future as they have had to remain positive, resilient and patient. We have been proud of the way all of the children have adapted to life back in school as we know that it has not been business as usual.
We are looking forward to the new academic year and to welcoming all pupils back. It will feel slightly unusual: pupils will arrive at different times; there will be no whole school collective worship; learning spaces are arranged differently and children will have to readjust to daily classroom life - but we feel fully prepared and have spent considerable time planning and organising to make our full reopening as successful as possible. In September your child may feel apprehensive at first but we will be ready to reassure them. We have remained open for a cohort of children and have practice in following the guidance provided to schools.
We are your school and we aim to support all our children and families to the best of our ability through this next stage of full opening. Please keep in touch with us and use the ‘Class Dojo’ system we have set up to enable even stronger links between home and school. All teachers for next year have uploaded ‘welcome’ videos which we hope all of the children will see before they join us at the start of the year.
We have planned a whole school ‘topic’ on our return which we are really excited about and which will hopefully help all of us to process some of the things we have experienced over the last months. We look forward to sharing some of the children’s work with you in September.
