Jesus' Last Days on Earth
Over the next two weeks, we will be sharing with you the Easter story. Each day with have a key verse from the bible, a written extract by a year 6 pupil and a closing prayer.
“Don’t be alarmed! You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised. He isn’t here. Look, here’s the place where they laid him.”
Jesus’ body was entrusted into a tomb. Zara, the head scribe, wanted someone to guard it as he feared his followers would attempt to take the body in secret. Zara thought that Jesus could be more dangerous now he was dead. Roman soldiers was sent to watch over the tomb.
After the Sabbath, three days after Jesus’ death, Mary, Jesus’ mother, and some other women went to anoint the body. The Roman guards tried to stop them passing; however, they were there to cover him in linen, herbs and spices as was the tradition.
As they were led by the guards, they were asked by the gardener, “Where are you going? Why do you seek the living among the dead?” Then he added, “Jesus is not there.” Mary quickly turned and rushed to the tomb. The huge stone – which had been in front of the tomb – had been moved! If someone were to have moved it, they would have needed 10 men or more!
One friend said, “He is not here.” Then Mary ran back to the garden and realised that the gardener was Jesus, her own son. He had risen from the dead!
You are now alive! That’s amazing!
